Two Channel Video; Super 8 transfer to digital video & digital video
11 mins.
POP is a two channel video installation that articulates the relationship of a father and daughter.

Shot using super 8 film, (on the Left Channel) the father sings the popular 1955 Filipino Love song “Ang Tangi Kong Pag Ibig" (My Only Love). Smiling and sitting in the front of a fenced garden, he sings the song while sounds of the super 8 camera, birds chirping, dogs barking, and ambulances are heard in the background.

Playing along side it and shot in digital video, the second channel attempts to replicate the first. The artist is dressed in the same shirt as her father and sits in the same position while seamlessly lip-sinking to the audio of her father singing.

Because the father was shot in super 8, the audio had to be recorded separately and as a result he moves in and out of sink with the audio and his daughter.

There are three sections, where the song is sang three times and then a final scene.

At the end of of all three sections of the piece, the two and a half minute super 8 film of her father finishes and runs off the screen in dropping frames, leaving the daughter with both voice and picture.

In the final scene the left channel is completely blank and there is only ambient sound. Being the only one pictured, the daughter lips the song silently. Afterwards, her picture disappears and both of the screens show the fence that the father and daughter were singing in front of. The last thing you hear is the two laughing and the father singing a joyful song to her daughter.
